Subject Mark (out of 100) Programme subject

How it is calculated

Competitive average = all-subjects average × its weight + programme-subjects average × its weight. Programme subjects are the ones required by the programme you are applying to.

Step 1: (sum of marks of ALL subjects studied, including the programme's subjects ÷ number of subjects) × 0.4. Step 2: (sum of marks of the subjects REQUIRED by the programme ÷ number of those subjects) × 0.6. Step 3: competitive average = result 1 + result 2. It is computed per programme, so the same student has a different competitive average for each programme. Ties are broken by institution-chosen subjects (حسم التعادل).

Worked example: All subjects: 720 ÷ 8 = 90 → × 0.4 = 36. Programme subjects (e.g. advanced maths, physics, chemistry, English for SQU Engineering): 380 ÷ 4 = 95 → × 0.6 = 57. 36 + 57 = 93.0

What is the competitive average (المعدل التنافسي, al-mu'addal al-tanafusi)?

The competitive average is the score Oman's Higher Education Admission Centre uses to rank applicants for a programme. Part of it comes from all your General Education Diploma subjects and part from the subjects that programme requires, so the same student has a different competitive average for each programme.
